Do Pets In A Home affect Buyer’s Attitudes?

While everyone wants a clean home, sometimes it is difficult to achieve when you are an animal lover and owner. Different types of dogs have different degrees of shedding as do different types of cats. I think most people would not object to a pet occupying a home with their owners. After all, a dog is a man’s best friend…right?  Pets are a big part of life for a lot of people and a huge source of love and companionship. The problem arises when there is no attempt to keep your pet clean and manicured or worse yet, when the animal has not been trained to respect certain boundaries within the home and messes everywhere.  Unattended to litter boxes and spots on carpets are not only unsightly but unsanitary and often times a source of very unpleasant odors.

I believe most home buyers would be willing to overlook the fact that a pet occupies a home as long as there are no telltale signs of a lack of cleanliness and an absence of smell, specifically cat urine. Frequent bathing of your animal and regular and repeated brushing to remove loose hair can do wonders to rid the home of unwanted hair and dander, not to mention the fact that your animal will love you even more than normal… If the would be home seller is conscientious and aware, the pet issue is a non-issue for the most part. There are, of course, exceptions such as allergies that may pose a problem for some.

What are your thoughts and would you not buy a home because an animal lived in ti?
